RE-CEREAL at the EU-Projects Fair 2019

RE-CEREAL at the EU-Projects Fair 2019

On September 24th, at Mareccio Castle in Bolzano, RE-CEREAL was presented during the so called “L’Europa sei tu!”, the EU Projects Fair organised by the Province of Bolzano.

Visitors coming to our stand were able to discover the wide diversity among the varieties of millet and buckwheat, previously studied in the RE-CEREAL project. In addition, they were able to taste some Schär products developed as part of the project…cereal rusks, extruded products and oat bread. All widely appreciated!

The RE-CEREAL project, promoted by the Dr. Schär R&D Centre, belongs to the projects funded by the European Regional Development Fund through the Interreg V-A Italy-Austria 2014-2020 programme, which started in November 2016 and ended in July 2019.

The project involved Dr. Schär S.p.A., Dr. Schär Austria GmbH, the University of Udine, the Laimburg Research Centre, the University of Innsbruck and Kärntner Saatbau.

The project aimed at the recovery and enhancement of so-called minor cereals (millet and oats), and of a pseudo-cereal, i.e. buckwheat through improvement activities and genetic selection, as well as at promoting their use in the food industry and enhancing nutraceutical components.

The results of the project were collected in a final leaflet available here:
